Starting 1 July 2025, the Federal Government will subsidise the cost of small-scale home battery systems through the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, delivered via the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES).

Here’s how it works:

30% discount on eligible batteries (5kWh to 100kWh).
Approximately 9.3 STCs (Small-scale Technology Certificates) per kWh of usable capacity.
No loan required — government covers the cost upfront.
Requirements: CEC-approved battery, accredited installer, and VPP-capable (for on-grid).

Example: A 10kWh battery could save you around $3,700 upfront through this program alone.

Even off-grid systems can benefit from this rebate.

Combine It with Solar Victoria’s Interest-Free Battery Loan (But Hurry!)

Victoria’s interest-free battery loan is almost gone. Only 1,000 spots remain, and applications close by 30 June 2025 or once allocated.

120 days to install after approval
